Rain = Blah

Why does rain make you blah? I don't know about you but every time it rains it puts me in a blah mood. All I want to do is crawl in bed and sleep the day away. Or curl up on the couch with a good book or a good, girlie movie. Since I have a 16 month old, that doesn't happen...ever. Once again, it's raining and once again, I'm blah. So what's a girl to do with weather like this? Bake, you say? Well, that is a grand idea but since I just made a dessert yesterday that's pretty much the last thing I need to do today. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the sun will come out and we'll have a beautiful day today. Because if not, I'm doomed. Doomed to another blah day.

I. Love. Sweets.

It's been a while since I've written anything about food so I thought I'd take some time to catch up. I've been baking (as usual) and have plenty of things to share.

My Dad and Father-in-Law love German Chocolate Cake. So, for their birthdays this year I decided to do something a little different and make them each a German Chocolate Cheesecake. It was a new recipe for me so I was taking a chance when I made it but I'm glad I did. It was so good!

Almost Candy Bar Things was also a new recipe for me. They were very good but very sweet. I could only eat one small piece at a time.

I got this recipe from Pioneer Woman (she's always got such GREAT recipes!). It's Strawberry Shortcake Cake. Another yummy one!

Next is another PW recipe: Awesomest Blueberry Muffins. Let me tell you, they definitely are the awesomest! I love them and have made them several times within the last few weeks.

Every summer my entire family looks forward to my Mom's Strawberry Pie. It's basically a summer staple for our family. :) There's nothing like it! I made one this year. It turned out pretty good but definitely not as good as Mom's. Next time I'll be sure to add more strawberries.

Today I tried another new recipe (go figure). It's Key Lime Cheesecake Bars. Sounds fabulous, right? I just now had a piece because they had to chill in the fridge for hours. They're good but I think they need a thicker graham cracker crust.

These are just a few of the things I've made in the last couple months. Unfortunately, I forget to take pictures half of the time so I only have these few to share.

JJ's First Owie

Well, he's had minor hurts before but this is the first of the serious injuries. I guess this isn't very serious either but it's worse than minor...Anywho, JJ's finger was shut in the door for the first time yesterday. After church on Sunday nights a bunch of us stay for dinner and to play basketball, volleyball, or horseshoes. We were almost done for the night when it happened. JJ's finger was shut in the door. He didn't cry right away so I didn't notice right away. Once I saw what was happening I rushed over to get his fingers out of the door. Of course the damage had been done (bruise and small cut) and there wasn't much I could do other than love on him. I think I gave him more kisses in those few minutes than I have in the last week! ha! It is so heartbreaking when your baby is hurting and there's nothing you can do about it. Now I know understand how my Dad felt every time he told me that he would take the hurt for me if he could. I would have taken JJ's hurt in a heartbeat.

I tried taking a picture of his finger but it's not easy getting a 16 month old to sit still long enough to get a good picture. Here's what I ended up with...

This one shows the little cut and the bruise on the tip of his finger.

Reading Is Fun

This title will probably not make sense to most people but my family will get it 100%! Anyway, I've been on a reading kick lately thanks to my friends at church. They have gotten me hooked on Karen Kingsbury books. I can't put them down! I can read an entire book anywhere from 1 to 3 days. The last time I did that I was in high school. I had time to read back then!

I've read the Redemption Series. So good!

I'm working on the Firsborn series right now.

I definitely plan on reading the Sunrise series.

In between series, I read this stand-alone book. Another great one!

So, if you find yourself looking for a good book, I recommend giving Karen Kingsbury a try!

Show Us Your Life Friday: Wedding Reception and Honeymoon

Okay, so this week is Wedding Reception and Honeymoon at Kelly's Korner. We went several different places on our honeymoon so there will be quite a few pictures to look through. How fun it is to go back and look at all these pictures. Brings back some great memories!

I posted a picture of my wedding cake last week so I won't post it again. Here we are cutting the cake.

Now, feeding each other. We did NOT smash it in each others faces. I hate that! I'm so glad he behaved!

Here is the groom's cake. Once again, very simple (and not as perfect as I would have liked it to be) but it fits my hubby perfectly. He is a Spurs fanatic so this was definitely the cake for him!

Here is the reception site. We just set up a tent in an area of my parents' yard and moved the chairs from the ceremony site to the reception site. Worked out great!

Instead of using rice or bubbles, we decided to use sparklers for our send off. I'm so glad we did! They were fun and resulted in some great pictures! This is hubby and me. It's a little hard to see but I love this one!

Here is my Mom and brother. As you can see, Mom is definitely enjoying herself!

This is a family from Jorge's side. They came all the way from Las Vegas to help us celebrate. We were so thankful they came! This is actually one of my favorite pictures from the day. I love it!

And we're off!

Now, on to the honeymoon. We were married in July but didn't go on our Honeymoon until September. I actually kinda liked it that way. Gave us something to look forward to!

First, we went to the San Diego Wildlife Park.

Next, we went to Laguna Beach. Love that place! We had breakfast at a restaurant on the beach. I could seriously eat there every day!

We also went to the Hollywood Wax Museum). Me with Spiderman, himself. haha!

Hubby with Denzel.

We spent a day at Universal Studios.

My favorite part of our honeymoon was the cruise that we went on. I highly recommend cruises and can't wait to go on another one!

One stop we made was Catalina Island. What a beautiful place!

Formal night on the cruise ship.

Horseback riding in Escenada, Mexico.

This was our last day on the ship. We just wandered around and took lots of pictures.

The last place we went was Las Vegas. We were only there for a couple days. I was worn out by that time so it was okay with me!
